Neighborhood Alert E-Mail Program

Web sites are generally a reactive form of obtaining information. The webmaster puts in the information and the citizen has to make the effort and search through a multi-layered website to see if the information one is looking for exists.  In spite of what a web site can accomplish, it does little good if one doesn't know what is newly posted and where and when to find updated information that may be of interest.

For this purpose, we have created a "Reverse E-Mail List".  It is a group list of all Wayland residents (and non-residents if you have moved, away for the summer, or just an interested citizen) so that we can contact you with any updated information and/or announcements on the website  which may be of interest to you.  Using this method, the Wayland Police Department can use this technology to impart such information to a large group of people in an easy and efficient manner. Such examples of  this electronic notification have been "Why We Issue Tickets", new defibrillator grant awarded to our police department, traffic concerns and our progress as a police department with citizens groups to make our streets more safe, and explanations as to why "getting things done quickly" isn't always as easy as we on the police department would like them to be.

If you would like to be added to out "Reverse E-mail List, please click on the icon below stating that you wish to be included on our group list. It is not necessary to give your residential address or phone number, just your name and e-mail address will suffice.  You have the right to request that your e-mail address be removed from  our list at any time with no explanation necessary and we will do so. Our computers have up-to-date virus detection software and every message sent out is also scanned as an additional safety precaution as well.  In addition, the bulletin will be sent as a blind carbon copy so that no one sees anyone else's e-mail address. Privacy is a very important issue, especially when it comes to computer technology.

To date we have over 350 residents signed up, albeit a low number considering the number of wired internet computers in Wayland homes, it is one more way in which we, the Wayland Police Department, can try to serve you and our community  even better.
